Fight Off The Negative Thoughts From Your Mind

Rumination or excessive brooding over negative thoughts is not good for your mind and health too, and it often leads to chronic depression. Negative thinking brings along fear and anxiety and it leads to one focusing on what they don’t want and draining too much energy from their mind and body.  Fear is counterproductive and destructive as it determines how we feel about ourselves, others and the world and what we express on our opinions, values, beliefs, and judgment. The negative thoughts are always on our mind and they will surface once something or someone triggers them and you will tend to react emotionally. However, you can change your negative thinking to positive thinking so as to have a productive life. It all starts with training your mind to think about what you want in life and to avoid thinking about what you don’t want. You will not avoid having negative thoughts, but you can choose to replace them with positive thoughts.  Monitor what you are thinking about and catch any negative thought that is creeping into the mind and this will create a habit that will encourage positive thoughts only. Don’t allow any negative thoughts to stay in your mind and there are a many techniques that you can use to focus your mind on positive things and stop dwelling on negative thoughts. First, you need to recognize the importance of doing away with negative thoughts.  Be aware that negative thoughts are around you and immediately change the negative attitude to a positive one.  Accept that uncertainty does happen in life and at times you may have no answer or a solution to them.
  • Change Your Body Language
Low self-image and body language leads to lack of confidence in one self and if you have a low emotional state you will start having negative thoughts. You will think that people don’t love you because you are not worthy and you don't deserve to be treated well. Sitting up straight, walking with confidence will make you feel better and feel good about yourself.
  • Talk It Out
When you have unresolved issues or emotions that you are keeping to yourself will lead to one haven negative thoughts.  If you need something to be addressed, then talk to a close confidant who will help you get out of them. Negative thoughts and help you deal with your emotions and issues.
  • Take A Walk
Stepping away from a negative environment that gives you negative thoughts will distract you hence giving you a peace of mind. As you walk, focus on the environment that you are in rather than the environment you left behind.
  • Be Creative
Just because you can’t avoid thinking negatively, spend your time creatively, i.e. get creative outlets for your thoughts.  You can choose to engage yourself in something that you like and this will work as therapy and it clears the negative thoughts out of your mind.
  • List What You Are Grateful For
Your life has a lot of positive things that you are grateful for so listing them will lift your spirits because you will realize that you have so many good things.  Don’t take anything for granted no matter how big or small they are because they make you happy.  You can also write a thank you note to someone you appreciate.
  • Do Yoga Or Meditate
Yoga makes one to focus on how they breathe rather than what is in their thoughts.  Yoga is relaxing and it eases the mind, hence focusing on what is important at that moment. One form of mediation is mindfulness where you also focus the present moment, i.e. sounds, smiles, emotions and thoughts and let you focus on them without any judgment.  You don’t engage with or fight off the negative thoughts but you acknowledge their existence but don’t judge or react. Both yoga and mindfulness will help you focus less on negative thoughts, reduces stress and improve cognitive flexibility which makes it easier for you to break out old thought patterns.
  • Surround Yourself With Positive People
Talking to friends who give you constructive feedback and bring things into perspective when you are having negative thoughts will help because you will be feeding your mind with positive thoughts. Avoid perpetual negative people whenever you can and get to know what habits they have rubbed off on you.
  • Change The Negative Tone For A Positive One.
Instead of thinking negatively about a situation chose to see the positive side. For example, instead of thinking that you have challenges in a certain area, think of how you will face the challenges and this will make you think of solutions which will help you. Don’t spend time thinking that might happen, but think of what action you need to take.
  • Don’t Take All The Responsibility
Being responsible for your actions is important, but you should not take any responsibility for anything that you have not done. Don’t blame yourself for something for things that you don’t have to do with them because this will lead to you have negative thoughts about how incompetent you are.
  • Choose To Volunteer Or Help Someone
Doing something nice for someone without them asking for it will make you happy and you will feel better about yourself.
  • Seek Opportunities For Growth
Get to research new hobbies or interests that you can engage in once you have negative thoughts. Get to learn new skills or activities and recognize that failure is a must before perfection, so don’t have negative thoughts about you not succeeding at first.
  • Take Something Hot
The physical warmness that comes when you take something hot will serve as a substitute for emotional warmth. A cup of hot tea will stimulate your mind to relax hence doing away with negative thoughts. Affirm yourself with positive and self-supporting thoughts and your mind will always focus on them. Choose to get away from negative thought patterns which may be an internal battle and embrace positive thoughts for happiness and inner peace.
